Lutz Johnen
DIRECTOR
AQUALITY TRADING & CONSULTING LTD. |
| |
|
|
Clean, fresh water is a limited resource. Germany leads the world in its commitment to environmental issues and its companies have spent lavishly on research and development, especially when it comes to water recycling.
Lutz Johnen became interested in rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling at a very early stage of the advance of this important technology. He took the opportunity to work with the leading company GEP Umwelttechnik GmbH, a specialist manufacturer with great expertise in this field. In 1996 he was placed in charge of export of GEP’s newly developed rainwater harvesting systems.
Lutz Johnen seized the challenge of introducing this green technology in new and growing markets such as Austria, Switzerland, Luxemburg, Belgium and the Netherlands. A few years later Denmark and Japan were added. The rapid growth of these markets and the interest in this new technology let to the establishment of subsidiaries in the Netherlands and Austria.
GEP was invited to join a German-Chinese governmental research project for alternative water technologies which included the erection of a combined rainwater harvesting and grey water recycling system for residential apartment blocks in Beijing. Lutz Johnen was responsible for the project management in close cooperation with the German and Chinese Government.
In 1999 he was appointed Managing Director of GEP, by then a multi-million company.
In 2004 Lutz Johnen founded Aquality Trading & Consulting Ltd. in London. He uses his experience and expertise to assist consulting engineers and architects to design systems and also integrate the new water technology in attenuation, soak-aways, fire fighting systems etc.. The aim is to make solutions as water efficient as possible and the investment most cost-effective.
Lutz Johnen, a well respected member of the UKRHA (UK Rainwater Harvesting Association) as well as the Fbr (German rainwater harvesting association) says: ‘The world is changing, so we have to, as well, especially when we have the right technologies at hand and can prevent possible shortages or extreme calamities.’
